A couple had a narrow escape after they crashed their £200,000 brand
new Lamborghini into a 20ft-deep fishing lake on Christmas Day - only a
week after buying the supercar.
The man and woman lost control of
the 5.2-litre Lamborghini Huracán near Higham Ferrers Fishing Club in
Northamptonshire at around 1pm.
The white car - which can reach
speeds of 204mph - smashed into a central reservation barrier before
spinning off the road and plunging into the club's freezing lake.

As the vehicle started to sink, the couple were forced to break out and swim for their lives.
They managed to reach the bank, where they were given blankets by passersby to keep warm.
Neither of them suffered any reported injuries in the crash.
Police were called to the scene, but it was only six days later that the supercar was winched out of the water.
Councillor
Richard Gell, from East Northamptonshire Council, took pictures of the
wrecked 602bhp vehicle being recovered at around 10.30am on New Year's
Eve.

Speaking today, Mr Gell, 74, said: "It will be an expensive prang that one.
"I was called by the police because I have responsibility for the lake as a town councillor because we lease it out.
"When
they told me it was a Lamborghini I couldn't believe it. They had only
had the car a week as well. It's unfortunate. It must have been their
pride and joy.
"It will surely be a write-off. They must be gutted, but they were lucky to escape unharmed.
"If its a new car, they may have underestimated the power of the vehicle."

The Lamborghini - which can do 0-60mph in 3.2
seconds - was travelling from Thrapston to Wellingborough along the A45
when the incident occurred.
Northamptonshire Police said the
force had received two reports of the crash - one from a passer-by and
one from the woman travelling in the car.
Neither the woman, nor her partner, has been identified.
A
force spokesman said: "The vehicle collided with the central
reservation barrier and then hit the barrier at the side of the lake
before going into the water.

"There were two people in the car, a man and a woman.
"They both got out and swam to safety while the car sank.
"The man and woman were given blankets by passers-by to keep warm after getting out of the water.
"We had to close off the roads for a bit so the Highways Agency could fix the barrier.
"All the barriers were fixed by 3.30pm."
It is thought that the Lamborghini will have to be written off following the crash.
