The hunky actor joked that he's not good looking enough to play Bond in a hilarious Twitter post.
US shock jock Rush Limbaugh stunned fans when he said Idris Elba can't be Bond "because he's black."
But it seems the British actor is having the last laugh after fans stood by him, by posting a hilarious selfie of him pulling a face on Twitter.
Idris shared the snap along with the caption: "Isn't 007 supposed to handsome? Glad you think I've got a shot! Happy New year people."
The hunky star - who achieved international fame in his role as Russell 'Stringer' Bell in HBO hit The Wire - is the front runner to eventually replace Daniel Craig as 007.
But radio host Rush said on his show earlier this week that he shouldn't even been considered because of his skin colour, according to the Daily Mail newspaper.
"James Bond is a total concept put together by Ian Fleming. He was white and Scottish. Period. That is who James Bond is, was," he said.
"But now [they are] suggesting that the next James Bond should be Idris Elba, a black Briton, rather than a white from Scotland."
"That's not who James Bond is and I know it's racist to probably point this out."
Despite the outburst, fans supported the 42-year-old star again on Twitter today after he posted his selfie, with one saying: "Get a 007 suit and tie and you're 100% there!," along with a love heart eyes emoticon.
Another joked on the social media site: "If you're 007, it would be the first time I would pay to go watch it in the cinema rather than on bootleg lol. I hope you are!"
We very much hope he is.!
