ISIS executes eight undercover Iraqi police officers and release images of savage slaughter

The horrific images show the men just moments before their death at the hands of ISIS killers

Kneeling in the dust, these eight brave Iraqi police officers await their death at the hands of ISIS.

The horrifying images were released by the terrorist group that has cut a swathe of death and terror throughout Syria and Iraq as a warning to anyone else who may take up arms against them.

The officers were accused of spying on ISIS on behalf of the Iraqi military. In the video, entitled 'Day of Judgement', the men are seen in orange uniforms, similar to those worn by prisoners at Guantanamo Bay, kneeling in the dust.

The eight men were reportedly spying on the group, identifying potential targets for American-led Coalition airstrikes on ISIS positions after infiltrating the group.

The photos show the blindfolded and handcuffed officers being marched along the edge of a river, dragged by militants by the scruff of their neck.

They are then forced to kneel on the shore underneath a bridge and executed with a bullet to the back of the head.

The pictures emerged as a senior official of ISIS' self-declared police force in Syria was himself found decapitated in the eastern province of Deir al-Zor, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.

The man was an Egyptian national and was known as the deputy 'emir' of the al-Hesbah force in the province, the British-based Observatory said.

His body, which showed signs of torture, was found near a power plant in al-Mayadeen city, it said.

ISIS, an offshoot of al Qaeda, has seized land in Syria and neighbouring Iraq and has been the target of U.S.-led airstrikes in both countries since September.

The Observatory, which gathers information from a network of sources on the ground, said the message "This is evil, you Sheikh" was also found written on the corpse, which had a cigarette in its mouth.

It was not clear who had carried out the beheading.
