Jilted teenager tracked his ex-girlfriend from her Facebook posts then strangled her

A jilted boy who strangled to death his ex-lover in a disturbing teen murder told cops: "I was looking in her eyes as she died."

Cold-blooded Eduard Vaida, 17, hunted down his childhood sweetheart Paula Dindiligan, 15, using her Facebook account, consumed by jealously when she ended their two-year relationship.

He dragged the girl from the road as he made her way home from an ice rink in the town of Baia Sprie in northern Romania.

He would later tell police the chilling words: "I put my hands around her neck as I lay on top of her and I strangled her. I was looking in her eyes as she died."

Paula had previously complained that the once-charming boyfriend had become possessive and alleged he hit her.

The girl's parents raised the alarm with police after last seeing their daughter when she left the family home to catch a bus.

Detectives spotted that she had left the skating rink using CCTV images and later made the grim discovery of her dead body lying on a patch of waste ground.

Suspicion quickly fell on Vaida who was arrested and admitted immediately that he had killed her, claiming he had been drunk at the time.

He said he just wanted to talk to her about getting back together because he couldn't accept she wanted to leave him, but ended up launching the brutal attack.

The teenage killer admitted he had been stalking the schoolgirl, suspicious she might be meeting another man.

He managed to track his former love down as she used her Facebook account to let pals know where she was.

Neighbour Maria Ionescu told TV reporters: "I can't really take in what is supposed to have happened. Both of them were just children really.

"They were always together and always walking around holding hands, they seemed to be very much in love.

"I am surprised that they broke up but even more surprised that he is supposed to have killed her. I would have sworn Edi was not a violent person."

The girl had been a popular student at high school and her main talent was playing the flute.

According to her friends, she had told them that Eduard was her first love but he drank and when he did he was violent.

They said that Eduard came from a broken home and his mother and sister left to go to the United States leaving him living with his father, who would often take him out drinking to the pub.

The teenager is being examined by a psychiatrist and, if found to be sane and convicted, as a minor he could face up to 10 years in a detention centre.
