Angelina Jolie in her capacity as UN Ambassador is meeting with the Pope at the Vatican
She's a Hollywood actress, he’s the leader of the Catholic church - so it’ll be an unlikely meeting of minds when Angelina Jolie meets the Pope.
But the Tomb Raider star-turned-UN Ambassador is due to receive a private meeting with Pope Francis at The Vatican in Rome imminently.
Perhaps the pair will be discussing her Oscar-tipped directorial offering Unbroken, which tells the story of Olympic athlete Louis Zamperini.
Or maybe, the Holy Father wants to console Angie after she was labelled a “minimally talented spoiled brat” by bosses at Sony, in emails leaked last year.
But it’s more likely Angelina, 39, will be visiting as part of her position as Special Envoy, a role while sees the star represent the organisation at a diplomatic level, to assist refugees of major global crises.
Last year, she co-chaired an event campaigning for the end of sexual violence in war zones, along with UK Foreign Secretary William Hague.
A source tells 3am: “Angelina is a very passionate campaigner, so even though this meeting has taken a long, long time to come to fruition, she was determined to make it happen.
“Her work as a humanitarian has been noticed and appreciated.”
A spokeswoman for the UN said: “I am not in a position to provide any information about this at this point.”
A spokeswoman for The Vatican said: “We only give information about the public audiences of the Holy Father. If the audience is private there’s nothing from us.”
Angelina’s husband Brad Pitt, 51, is rumoured to be joining the actress, but he has previously discussed of his own beliefs: “I don’t have a great relationship with religion. I oscillate between agnosticism and atheism.”
Angelina was photographed in Rome yesterday with daughters Shiloh and Zahara without her husband, who presented an award at the Palm Springs Film Festival last weekend.
