A jealous thug who kidnapped his former partner before battering her
and throwing in a car has been jailed - along with his two accomplices.
Abdulazizi Ali became ‘enraged’ when he found his ex-girlfriend in bed with another man after she had been drinking with friends at a party, a court was told.
The 30-year-old admitted to ‘losing it’, before dragging her out of the house, punching her in the face and body, and out onto the street, the Manchester Evening News reports.
He then bundled into a car, where his brother Habib Ali, 28, and friend Paul Caruana, 25, were waiting with the engine running.
Abdulazizi continued to hit his former partner and verbally berate her as brother Habib drove off. At one point, Caruana held the car door shut from the outside so the terrified woman couldn’t escape.
Manchester Crown Court heard the pair separated after a lengthy relationship and that Abdulazizi’s former partner had been ‘respectful’ of his Muslim beliefs - choosing not to drink while they were together.
But when they separated, the woman enjoyed going out with friends and began mixing with other men.
Prosecuting, Justin Heyhoe, said: “When she came out of the relationship, she did what she wanted to do. That upset him.
“Once they separated, her impression was that he didn't approve of how she was living her life and who she associated with.”
The court heard that the woman ‘befriended’ a man and was with him at a party last July. When Abdulazizi found out where she was, he bombarded her with calls before going to the house in Manchester to confront her.
After shouting at her and slapping her, he left, but returned some hours later after his ex ignored his calls.
When Abdulazizi returned, he found her in bed with the man. He
grabbed her and dragged her through the house and out into the street,
hitting her repeatedly and verbally abusing her.
The terrified woman, who was in her underwear, begged to be let go, but Abdulazizi and his accomplices ignored her and drove to his mother’s house.
When she tried to run away, Abdulazizi chased her, picked her up and carried her into the house. She was eventually taken home by his family.
Mitigating, Mark Friend said Abdulazizi admitted to police he ‘lost it’ and that he regretted his actions.
In a statement read to the court, the woman said the ordeal had ‘ruined her life’ and was going through counselling.
All three of the men entered guilty pleas at earlier hearings.
Abdulazizi Ali, from Fallowfield, was sentenced to four-and-a-half years behind bars for kidnap and assault occasioning actual bodily harm.
Caruana, of Vaudrey Lane, Denton, and Habib Ali, of Sandbach Ave, Fallowfield, were jailed for 27 months apiece for false imprisonment.
Sentencing, Judge Martin Rudland told Abdulazizi he had treated the woman with ‘utter contempt’ and had subjected her to a ‘sustained and persistent physical attack’.
He added: “You sought to degrade, humiliate and dominate her and control her life. She suffered considerably at your hands and has been profoundly affected.”
He told Caruana and Habib Ali they played a ‘significant role’ in the ‘shocking and humiliating ordeal’.
