Some of the world's most embarrassing A&E visits have been revealed for the first time in this wince-inducing gallery of X-ray pictures from 'sexual misadventures'.
Radiologists shared a treasure chest of previously private scans showing patients - the majority appear to be middle-aged men - with bizarre objects stuck inside them.
But if you expect most of the 'foreign bodies' to be sex toys, then you're wrong.
Smell nice? This find turned out to be a deodorant bottle |
Rammed objects include deodorant cans (adult male), lighter fluid bottles (male, 21), instant coffee jar (adult male) an orange (male, 45) and a PESTLE (male, 40).
Doctors on the Radiopaedia website claimed the man with a pestle stuck inside him claimed he slipped when he was cooking Malaysian food.
There's also an egg, an aubergine, an AXE handle, a sports drink bottle and a homemade object fashioned from an empty tube of Berocca tablets with a spray nozzle on the end.
Excuse: A 40-year-old man allegedly slipped while cooking Malaysian food and landed on a pestle |
Doctors on the site, which is similar to a Wikipedia for radiologists, performed a medical diagnosis on each image while adding in their own brand of humour.
One suggested sex toys should come with an ankle strap "like a surfboard".
Another described the aubergine incident as "horticultural misadventure" and added: "The shape of the aubergine means that once it's equator has passed the anal verge it has a tendency to scoot up up and away.
"When that happens... well, it means an embarrassing trip to the emergency department, or perhaps the local horticultural society."
Eggs: Some remote villages in the world believe eggs up the rectum can cure most things |
He said: "Among inhabitants of some villages in the country (about 65 years ago), the introduction of an egg in the rectum is used for palliative treatment of some discomforts when there was no access to the medical units."
Bottled it: This man put a plastic bottle inside him - with the lid still on |
The website states: "The vast majority of such objects are inserted via the anus and are the result of sexual misadventure.
"In older men, the objects may be introduced to aid in manual disimpaction for constipation or to massage the prostate.
"Removal of such objects can be challenging depending on the shape, material and orientation within the rectum.
"If possible they should be removed via the anus, although in some cases a laparotomy may be required."
