He worked closely with One Direction n the documentary that gave
Directioners the access to the boyband they dreamed of, and now the
filmmaker Morgan Spurlock has claimed that Zayn Malik appeared to find
it tough being away from his fiancé Perrie Edwards.
One Direction: This Is Us grossed over $67 million worldwide and its director doesn’t entirely appear shocked by Zayn’s exit.
The 22-year-old announced that he had quit the band in a statement to fans on Wednesday last week, and now the director has said that Zayn appeared the least comfortable with fame and the boys’ gruelling schedule which saw him taken away from family and friends.
This also includes his fiancée, Little Mix star Perrie Edwards, who Zayn proposed to just before the documentary’s London premiere.
“I think he was the one who struggled with it the most,” the filmmaker told the Huffington Post.
“And being away, being on the road, being away from his girlfriend I think finally just got to him, and I think he said, ‘I’m done.””
The 3D concert saw Morgan and his film crew follow the band around the world and saw the toll the punishing tour schedule and promos took on the former X Factor hopefuls.
Spurlock also suggested that Zayn had other passions outside of music that he was unable to explore because of his commitments with the band.
“He wanted nothing more than to sit in his house and spray paint and draw and do art, and I think this explosion that happened to him - which was something none of them ever predicted - [was hard]', he explained.
Zayn Malik and Perrie Edwards looked as if they were putting the recent dramas behind them, as they jetted off on holiday.
The former 1D star and Little Mix babe, who are said to be more determined than ever to tie the knot, were pictured boarding a private jet today along with Zayn's family.
Perrie looked as elegant as ever in a black floppy hat, cream jacket and towering heels, while her other half was looking laid back in a plaid shirt, black skinny jeans and woolly hat on Tuesday.
They were also joined by Zayn's mum Trisha, his sisters and his cousin as they made their way onto the small plane.
It's not known where they are headed, but Zayn made it clear he was ready for some time out of the spotlight despite being seen heading into a recording studio with producer Naughty Boy, who later released the 22-year-old's first solo demo on Soundcloud.
After he was pictured looking cosy with Brit Lauren Richardson,
19, in a Thai club two weeks ago, Zayn was hit by fresh allegations at
the weekend as Swedish club promoter and model Martina Olsson claimed he
had bedded her twice on the wild trip.
But judging by these pictures, they're putting on a united front.
Their trip also comes after Perrie was seen shopping with Zayn's mother Trisha and his sisters yesterday - perhaps holiday shopping?
Meanwhile, they are also said to be house hunting in Hertfordshire.
The young couple were the picture of togetherness as they checked out a £2million mock-Tudor mansion in Welwyn last week.
Pals say they are now also planning to bring forward their wedding – possibly to as early as this spring.
