Be ready to jail 5,000 pastors, PFN tells el-Rufai

The Kaduna State Chapter of the Pentecostal  Fellowship of Nigeria, on Tuesday, said the over 5,000 pastors in the PFN would rather obey God than obey the proposed preaching bill currently before the state House of Assembly when passed into law.

The state PFN chairman, Prof. Femi Ehinmidu, who spoke at a stakeholders’ roundtable conference in Kaduna, expressed concern on the bill being sponsored by the state government.

Ehinmidu told the state government to be ready to jail the over 5,000 pastors in the state’s PFN if the government believed it could muzzle the citizens to pass the bill into law.

He argued that the bill remained a recipe for crisis in the state when passed into law.

Ehinmidu pointed out that unless the government carried out wider consultations among critical stakeholders, the bill, which he claimed started on a faulty note, was bound to fail.

The Kaduna State Governor, Mallam Nasir el-Rufai, has, however, cautioned religious leaders against politicising the bill before the Assembly.

El-Rufai told the stakeholders that the preaching bill he sent to the state Assembly had no intention of banning evangelism in the state but aimed at curbing emerging religious extremism.

Speaking at the Roundtable Forum, organised by a non-governmental organisation, Carefronting Nigeria, with the support of the Canadian High Commission, el-Rufai, who was represented by his Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Mr. Samuel Aruwan, said the bill was informed by the government’s concern for security of lives and property.

The forum was tagged Kaduna State Religious Preaching Regulation Bill: Intention and Perception.

The governor said the government had no ill feeling towards the views of the Christian Association of Nigeria, the Jama’atul Nasril Islam and other critical stakeholders, who had made genuine positions on the matter.

He added that some people had started politicising the good intention of government to restore peace in the state.

He explained that the bill, when passed into law, would allow the Christian Association of Nigeria and the Jama’atu Nasir Islam to check strange ideological beliefs that were not in tandem with Christianity and Islam.

Fayose: Buhari plotting to turn Nigeria into Islamic country

According to Ekiti Governor, Ayodele Fayose, the President Muhammadu Buhari-led Federal Government is plotting to turn Nigeria into an Islamic country.

Governor Fayose has had a fractious relationship with the opposition for a very long time.
He described Nigeria as a free society and that would not be taken as an Islamic nation.
He stated that the All Progressives Congress deceived Nigerians to steal the inheritance of the people and was confident that the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP would reclaim the Presidency in 2019.
Fayose said this on Saturday at the thanksgiving celebration of Governor Nyesom Wike after the Supreme court upheld his victory in the 2015 poll.

The Governor said:
“We have all summoned courage. They have deceived us to take our inheritance. We are going to get our inheritance back. I want to say one thing; they have started again.
“I want to reveal one secret here; they have started subtle moves to make Nigeria an Islamic nation. But God will not allow it. This was done in 1984, but it failed. I cannot run away; I am Ayo Fayose. If you hit me, you hit trouble, if I hit you, you will be in trouble.
“Nigeria is a free nation and this nation will not be taken for an Islamic nation. Today, I decree the return of a PDP government in 2019. They (APC) are here by chance, they will go by chance,”

Gospel singer admits cheating, splits from wife

Gospel artiste, Israel Houghton confirmed he and is wife are no longer together.
On his facebook page, the Grammy award winning gospel singer posted:
”It is with a collective heavy heart that we announce that after over 20 years of marriage and a long separation, Meleasa and I are officially divorced. Several years ago I failed and sinned in my marriage. Though this is new to many, it is not new to us as we have been working through this for over 5 years. Although we tried, the challenges in our relationship have proven too much to overcome. We have always handled our family and ministry with grace and generosity toward others, discretion, and privacy. So, for the sake of our amazing kids, we are also handling this privately with pastoral oversight and assistance. We choose to remain friendly and kind to each other going forward. I am in the process of restoration and I have repented for my actions. Although I am sincerely sorry, and forgiven, I soberly realize that I will live with the consequences of my failings for the rest of my life. As this has become a public matter I want to apologize to the many who have supported my ministry through the years. I’m sorry for the many who will be hurt to learn of my personal failure. I regret any pain or disappointment that this news may cause you. We thank you for your prayers and for allowing us to handle this privately with those who are set over us in this process.
 Prayerfully Israel Houghton”
