Just as police and protesters were set to clash in violent scenes, an unexpected visitor calmed things down in the nick of time
This is the bizarre moment that a skateboarding dog came to the aid of police to break up protesters in war-torn Ukraine.
Sam, a British bulldog, rode his skateboard through crowds of passionate protesters, leaving them baffled.
The gathering, understood to be organised for a demonstration against political corruption in the troubled country, took place in Odessa, the Ukraine's third-largest city.
Eyewitness 25-year-old Anatoly Hlushko said: "He was hilarious and impossible to ignore, he seemed very excited about the action and was smashing the skateboard left and right and running into everyone.
"He was also panting like a steam engine and suddenly people who seemed to focus on the building were grabbing their mobile phones to film the hilarious dog."
It is thought that Sam was at a local park but ran off to investigate the noise form the crowds, causing a distraction which gave police more time to secure the building from protesters, who looked on in bafflement.
