Two boys aged 12 and 13 were today charged with raping a 43-year-old woman during a terrifying gang attack in her own home.
The victim was allegedly confronted by up to eleven youths during the assault last September.
Initially, among those held were two men, 19 and 18, two youths 16, three boys, 15, a girl, 15, two 13-year-olds and a boy, 12.
Now, Merseyside Police have charged two of them for the incident in Anfield, Liverpool.
Detectives described the incident as 'appalling.'
They urged for the wall of silence surrounding the attack to be broken, and called on relatives or friends of those arrested to come forward to help the enquiry.
The suspected rape happened in the late afternoon and was brought to the attention of the police after a tip-off from a member of the public
Police said the boys were charged with rape and other sexual offences.
They will appear before a youth court next month.
