Sadio Mane scores sub 3-minute hat-trick against Aston Villa to smash Premier League record

Sadio Mane scored a stunning hat-trick in just two minutes and 56 seconds during Southampton's clash with Aston Villa to smash the Premier League record.

The Saints star fired a lightning-quick treble in the first half at St Mary's to put the hosts in command.

Mane shaved almost two minutes off the previous top-flight record set by Robbie Fowler, who scored three times in four minutes and 33 seconds for Liverpool against Arsenal back in 1994.

The Senegalese striker had previously managed just seven goals in 30 games for Southampton since his £11.8million switch from RB Salzburg last summer.

However, Mane's haul is incredibly not the fastest in English football.

James Hayter hit a hat-trick in two minutes and 20 seconds for Bournemouth against Wrexham in their Division Two match in 2004.

The world record is held by Tommy Ross, who plundered an amazing treble in just 90 seconds for Ross County versus Nairn County more than 60 years ago.
