The band ambassadors were reportedly unaware the EOS product, which comes in bright, egg-shaped pods, caused a bad reaction and now the company is being sued.
According to US gossip website TMZ, customer Rachael Cronin has filed a class action lawsuit claiming the product has produced a 'panoply of bad reactions, including severe rashes, bleeding, blistering, cracking and loss of pigmentation'.
Cronin alleges she had a bad reaction to the balm just hours after applying it to her lips, which ended up feeling like "sandpaper" before they began craking and bleeding.
She reportedly ended up with blisters and a rash on her face which lasted up to 10 days.
The suit filed by laywer Mark Geragos - asks for damages and demands corrective advertising for the product.
The lip balms are available in a number of different flavours on evolutionofsmooth.com for just $3.29, including vanilla mint, strawberry sorbet and summer fruit.
A description reads: "Visibly Soft(TM) Lip Balm, enriched with natural conditioning oils, moisturizing shea butter and antioxidant vitamins C & E, nourishes for immediately softer, more beautiful lips."
Meanwhile, a number of bloggers have also complained about the lipbalms over the past year, including Monica Loves Makeup.
She wrote in a post: "I'm probably like everyone else because I loved EOS lip balms. However, a couple months ago I started to get VERY chapped lips. Of course, I kept applying EOS because I thought it would make it better.
"Not only were my lips chapped, but I had a lot of dryness around my mouth as well. I stopped using my EOS balms and used vaseline instead. It took a good month or two to completely heal up."
