Beyonce and Kendrick Lamar opened the 2016 BET Awards with an explosive performance on Sunday night.
Opening the annual ceremony with a dramatic surprise show, Beyonce brought her Formation tour to the BET Awards with the giant stage pool for Freedom.
Sans shoes, the 34-year-old tore up the stage in a black patterned leotard as she was flanked by her female troupe of dancers.
Taken from her latest album Lemonade, Beyonce boomed: “Freedom, freedom! Where are you? ‘Cause I need freedom too. I break chains all by myself / Won’t let my freedom rot in hell / Imma keep running ‘cause a winner don’t quit on themselves.”
Barefooted Beyonce spreads her wings on stage
While the 29-year-old rapped: “Open correctional gates in higher desert / Open our mind as we cast away oppression.
“Open the streets and watch our beliefs / And when they carve my name inside the concrete, I pray it forever reads [freedom].”
