Beyonce didn't win the Grammy for Album of the Year, but she did get a
consolation prize: an opportunity to tell her husband, "I told you so."
Confidenti@l is told that the Drunk in Love star has been warning Jay Z that his volatile pal and collaborator Kanye West is a threat to the couple's carefully crafted image.
A source close to the pair says she was quick to point out that West proved her point with his antics during and after Sunday’s show.
Our insider says Bey was embarrassed after West's taunts that Beck, whose Morning Phase won Album of the Year, "needs to respect artistry and he should have given his award to Beyonce."
The outburst led to endless comparison of Beck and Bey's talents.
Another source tells us that during the broadcast, Bey "disappeared" while Jay Z, West, Kim Kardashian and Taylor Swift were talking to one another.
"Beyonce's p****d at Jay Z for allowing Kimye so close to them," says our industry insider.
"Beyonce and her team have worked very hard to put out the exact image they want out there - it's super-controlled and managed and manicured.
"So for Kanye to jump up on stage without it being planned or part of a discussion is exactly the type of drama Beyoncé did not want with Kim and Kanye and the tabloid lives they live."
The source says that by Monday barely anyone would have remembered that Beyonce's self-titled album didn't win, but because of Kanye's fireworks, "she's been dragged into a national spotlight over whether she is as artistic as Beck, and it's been pointed out all over the web how many producers she has on her songs, and writers."
"It just sort of overexposed her for no reason and kind of diminished the pedestal she sits on," says the insider.
"Jay is very loyal to Kanye, but it’s the Kim and Kanye drama that Bey has always requested they avoid.
"This isn't a totally malicious or a big fight, more of an 'I told you so' from Bey to Jay."
