Life-long embrace: The man and woman were discovered locked in a tight embrace
As many happy couples tie the knot on Valentine's day, it seems the traditional vow of 'till death do us part' has not rung true for this couple.
The bodies of a man and woman, thought to be in their 20s, have been discovered in southern Greece still locked in a tight embrace - despite having died 5,800 years ago.
Archaeologists say the discovery is the oldest if its kind in Greece.
The New York Post reported that excavation team member Anastassia Papathanassiou believes the couple died holding each other.
Papathanassiou told The Associated Press the remains of the couple were found near the prehistoric site of Alepotrypa Cave in 2013, but that testing on the bodies has only just identified the sex of the skeletons.
It’s unclear at the moment how they died or if they were related.
Further DNA testing is expected to take place.
