Beyonce and Jay Z 'secretly bailed out protesters in Baltimore and Ferguson', according to activist

An activist has claimed Beyonce and Jay Z privately donated 'tens of thousands of dollars' to bail out protesters in Baltimore and Ferguson.

In a series of tweets which have now been deleted, activist and film-maker Dream Hampton said the showbiz power couple donated large sums of money to protesters in the US cities.

Hip-hop magazine Complex screengrabbed the messages on Twitter on Sunday night, which read: "I'm going to tweet this and I don't care if Jay gets mad.

"When we needed money for bail for Baltimore protesters, I asked hit Jay up, as I had for Ferguson, wired tens of thousands in mins."

She continued: "When BLM (Black Lives Matters) needed infrastructure money for the many chapters that we're growing like beautiful dandelions, Carters wrote a huge check...and more stuff, too much to list actually, that they always insist folk keep quiet."

Hampton is involved in the Black Lives Matter movement which supported protests in Ferguson, Missouri, following the shooting of Michael Brown, and in Baltimore, following the death of 25-year-old Freddie Gray, who died after he was injured in police custody.

The tweets were deleted a short time later but the activist stood by what she said, writing: "It's true they gave, which is why I tweeted it. but I erased it within minutes, because ppl believe what they want to (sic)"

She added: "One day I'll learn."

Hampton, who worked with Jay Z on his autobiography Decoded, later told The Guardian how Jay Z helped protesters, but did not provide specific details on how or when this happened.
