Teacher 'had sex with students and rated them on their performance'

A female teacher allegedly seduced two students - and it is claimed even rated them on their sexual performance.

Kelsey Leigh Gutierrez, 25, engaged in a variety of sex acts with the teenagers over 18 months, according to police .

She was sacked from her job as an English teacher at Santa Fe High School in Texas, USA, on November 18 after the claims emerged.

She now faces three charges of having an improper relationship with a student.

Local TV station KPRC 2 News said court documents alleged Gutierrez met with an 18-year-old Santa Fe High School student at about midnight on November 12 in the car park of the male student's residence.

It is claimed they kissed in the front seat of her car before climbing into the back seat to have sex.

Four days later Gutierrez went to the student's residence and they had sex in his bedroom, court records allege.

Investigators said the teacher admitted to having a sexual relationship with the student, adding they had found evidence on both of their phones about meeting times and the student's sexual performance.

The court documents also detail a 2015 relationship with another school student.

In May last year, the teacher is said to have picked up the second student in her car and they drove him to a petrol station car park, where they kissed.

A few weeks later Gutierrez picked up the teenager and parked on the side of the road, where they kissed in her car, it is claimed.

The two met again at the student's residence, investigators said.

The teacher started working at the school at the beginning of the 2014 school year.

She was held in custody in lieu of payment of a $45,000 (£36,000) bail but has since been released.

In a statement, the school said: "Santa Fe Independent School District became aware that a former high school teacher was arrested Monday, Nov. 28, 2016, in connection with allegations that she may have engaged in an improper relationship with a student.

"As soon as the District learned of the allegations, an internal investigation began including campus administrators and the District police department, and the teacher's employment with the District ended.

"We want you to know that we take very seriously any concerns that relate to the well-being of each of our students and our first priority is the safety and education of our students in our district.

"We will continue to work in cooperation with law enforcement and the District Attorney's office. Inappropriate actions by teachers will never be acceptable in this district."

The allegations against Gutierrez emerged following a tip-off to authorities.

UNILAG Student Rusticated For 4 Semesters After Posting This Write-Up On Facebook… SEE! His Write-Up

A student of University of Lagos identified as Adeyeye Olorunfemi of the Faculty of Environmental Sciences; Department of Building has been rusticated for 4 semesters, that is two academic years for criticizing the management of the institution.
Among other students suspended were the Students Union President, the General Secretary, the Financial Secretary, the Sport Secretary, the Speaker of the parliament, and other student leaders who participated in the peaceful protest of April 6th and 8th 2016, which led to the suspension of the Students Union.
However, among all the Students rusticated, Adeyeye Olorunfemi’s case is unique. It’s unique in the sense that, he is suspended for merely criticizing the leadership of the institution on their inability to manage situations as “democrats”.

In an article he wrote titled: The Senate of the University of Lagos; a Conglomeration of Academic Ignorami , which was published on Facebook and earned 16 shares.
The Senate of the University of Lagos; a Conglomeration of Academic Ignorami.

Read his post here:

The University of Lagos prides itself as a cosmopolitan University and over the years has maintained the status quo of excellence among her peers in Nigeria and the world at large. I promise not to make this BOMB as lengthy and circuitous as my last post on this medium. I will also make it as lucid as possible.

I mentioned in my last article WHAT IS GREAT ABOUT THE GREAT NIGERIA STUDENTS the jejunity of the Mission statement of the UNILAG,Hardly had I finished the article when the whole statement of mine started receiving fulfillment .One would call me a prophet!.

I now see the reason for the backwardness of my Nation, we blame those at the corridor of “power” forgetting those at the corridor of “education”; the corridor of “common sense “.I am a discussant of History and it has made me realise that from time immemorial, whenever there is problem in the society ,tertiary institutions are places of solace, they are citadels of solutions.

Government would go to schools to consult undergraduates, lecturers; professors as they posed to be the backbone of the society. Now, Nigeria is in shambles, the economy is crumbling, where is Dr Nduibisi Nwokoma of the Economics department?, Buhari is still waiting for your economic model computation and those econometrics rubbish theories you teach your students.

Prof. G.L Oyekan!.., there is infrastructural decay!. Prof. Idoro Godwin, buildings are collapsing and projects are poorly handled!. This is not project planning class where you come to disturb students with your unending battery of questions e.g What is Objective? ..answer- Objective is ….Question 2- What is “is”?. What a comedian! .

Vice Chancellor sir!, you remain a first class Chemical engineering graduate from Obafemi Awolowo University, Ife.What has happened to the Great Ife in you!. Our power generation is deteriorating and you are alive . The Nation’s investment of knowledge on you to make you a scholar is a WASTE. Your first class honours degree is the true definition of a FIASCO.
That’s by the way,the protest that led to Senate’s resolution to dissolve the Student Union and the forceful blood covenant Oath-taking was a peaceful one. One that started on a calm note with the intention to end in a day only if the DSA or VC came to talk to the students during the act. The Egocentricity of an African man would not just allow them to come, They are PhD holders. I call them ACADEMIC IGNORAMUSES! .

The irresponsibility, insensitivity and irresponsiveness to the welfare of the students of the VC and his misMANAGEMENT have shown that they are all misfits when it comes to parenthood.

They all stood up when the former mistake we had as president tried to rename Unilag to Maulag because the brand UNILAG gives them the pride they need to sleep with any girl-student and admission-seekers effortlessly. These are the goings-on in Unilag, let the world know!. The likes of Ogbinaka Karo were ready to tear down the nation if the renaming was not revoked. Now,this is our own issue; Welfarism, we can’t find them. Are they telling me that the Name issue is greater than Welfarism. Is the aesthetics of a building more important than the structural stability? , If you don’t know, go ask the MD, Lekki Gardens.

My secondary school teacher once told me that during his days at the University of Ibadan, they protested when the chicken on their breakfast meal was reduced to 1 instead of the usual 2. For Christ’s sake ,was it this same Nigeria? .We never asked for all these things Bello and his cohorts enjoyed, all we asked for was water/light and all we could get from a sensible Senate is the threat of expulsion. Are there no “common sense” persons in the management anymore? .We mourn late Prof. Ayodele Awojobi freshly..

I promised not to make this too lengthy but I stand in this era for change as I don’t want to be much too a victim of circumstances because I have never gained anything from this system of education. I learn everything myself just like most of us. My lecturers are too busy to teach but are very ready to threaten you with failure. Where is Julius Faremi? .

I am ready not as Adekunle Gold but as an active citizen for any step they might want to take against me. E e ba mi ni’be. I remain Adeyeye
Olorunfemi.

Confusion trails choice of 'PANDA' as NASELS FYB name

As expected, these folks would argue about everything and anything. Students of the final year batch of National Association of Students of English and Literary Studies NASELS, OAU chapter have come into disagreement about the choice of name to be given to the graduating set.
As a tradition, a committee was put in place to organise the FYB celebration. These members in the committee were selected by the general class populace. A name is always accredited to a graduating set. The committee came together to chose the name PANDA.

Yeah, Desiigner's Panda so I thought. Cool name to describe the factioned class. It was however not taken lightly by SOME students.

The committee then took pains to explain the concept. In their words;

*From the FYB Committee:*

As nominated representatives of the Nasels Part Four FYB committee, the mandate has been given, of individually estimating the class as a whole and therefore, collectively making certain decisions that are to be planned and executed with the highest consideration of the CLASS.
We appreciate wholeheartedly, this distinguished honour bestowed.
However, we very much want you the Class, our Boss, to understand how tricky it can be, having to satisfy varying exciting appetites.
Nevertheless, we only seek to satisfy you, even when you don't immediately grasp our intentions.
After series of deliberation, we came about with the Graduating Set name as d'PANDA. " d' " meaning "The", while "PANDA" means a living entity (a name, yes popular with an animal).
The name "d'PANDA" was decided upon, after (like you'd expect us to do) evaluating seriously, OUR class.
The PANDA bear exemplifies a living entity made up of opposing colours(black and white), one whose skin is an obvious contradiction but still displays unity in beauty. It also exacts immeasurable strength being a strong and colossal animal. But above all, is humble.
Which is why the "d" has being put in lower case signifying our humility and the "PANDA" in upper case signifying our great number, the "Two Colours" our different views.
Existent in our class are the subliminal and sometimes superliminal tensions, were we encounter (not good or bad) but OPPOSING factions with OPPOSING ideologies, yet still with the idea of onwardness.
So just like the entity(Panda Bear) depicts, we, your representatives have crafted this name d'PANDA, envisioning our Class as a living entity with its infinite differences and individualism.
Since we desire to project UNITY in our DIVISION, why not emulate a LIVING entity that is obviously made of variations but is still unified, strong and beautiful?

We very much hope you key, into this rich projection that we've created for ourselves and look beyond circumstantial frivolities, for we are only existing to please you the CLASS.......

Even with this, class members were torn between supporting and opposing the name.

Check out their reactions

UNILORIN removes HoD for allegedly wooing student

A lecturer at the Department of English, University of  Ilorin, Dr Mohammed Idiagbon, has been removed as the head of the department for allegedly wooing one of the students of the institution.
Sources at the university told our correspondent on Monday that Idiagbon was removed as the HoD after it became public knowledge that he allegedly intimidated and wooed the unnamed student.
They stated that the lecturer had invited the student to his office and allegedly proposed romantic friendship with her.
One of the sources said the unnamed student recorded the conversation between her and the lecturer.
He said,

“However, the lecturer did not rape the student, but only tried to intimidate her to become his lover.”
Another source said when the matter was reported to the authorities of the institution, a panel was set up to investigate the matter and the lecturer was queried.
She added that the lecturer was removed as the HoD to avoid interference while investigations continued.
According to her, the lecturer knowing the implication of his alleged action, resigned his appointment from the university.
She said,

“The lecturer invited a student to his office. He wanted to date the student.  It was not a case of rape.
“The student recorded the discussion and when the matter reached the authorities, the lecturer was removed as the HoD of English Department. He has even resigned from the university.”
The Deputy Director, Corporate Affairs, Mr. Kunle Akogun, told our correspondent on the telephone that the university had zero tolerance for amorous relationship and misconduct between lecturers and students.
He explained that after the case was reported at the Students Affairs Department, it was referred to the appropriate authorities in the institution.
He said,

“The lecturer was queried and removed as the Head of English Department, and invited before  a disciplinary panel.
“The lecturer, however, resigned his appointment with the university and did not appear before the panel.”
He stated that in spite of Idiagbon’s resignation, the report of the panel was still being awaited.

INTRODUCTION
This is Alexis' fifth high school, and they've made it so very clear this time - it's her last chance. But how can she be good when she accidentally gets herself into a stupid bet involving the HOT jerk (Max), and has to make him fall for her?

                                                Chapter 1

“Oh my GAWD! Does that girl not know anything about fashion?” Cheerleader-lookalike yelled, staring at me across the lanes. She was in some shiny Porshe. Whatever, her car had nothing on my yellow Ferrari in the garage at home. It wasn’t my fault I’d been banned from driving it, as part of my punishment for getting kicked out of that last school, and was stuck with a lame Smart car.
“I’m totally ashamed to be seen on the same road as her,” said the Blond in the passenger seat, drawing on eyeliner, so much she looked like a really bad blond Emo kid.
When the lights turned green, Cheerleader slammed on the gas, and Blonde shoved her eyeliner into her eye. Inside, I was cracking up. Outside, I was cool and calm. But I couldn't resist flipping them off as I drove away. Come on, they totally dissed me!
I flicked my hair as I went down the road. God, girls like that were annoying. Though I kind of had to admit, I kept staring in the car mirror too, shocked. What the hell was this? I’d tied my hair into the two bunches and put on the big geeky glasses my Dad had bought me and now I looked like a nerd.   Awesome!
The frame hid too much of my face and magnified my eyes, making me look like some creepy owl thing. But I drew the line when he showed me the fake braces that could be stuck to your teeth. I mean, come on.
Okay, I was depressed about my new nerd look, but didn’t do anything about it. This was what my parents wanted, right? For me to keep my head down, and not get into any trouble? Well, this would totally do it. I was a geek. I’d semi-compromised by putting on some lip gloss and straightening my fringe, but it didn’t help. I just looked like a stupid wannabe.
God, why did I have to go through this again? My parents suck.
Well, whatever. I was late for my first day at my new school. I’d picked out the most 'boringest' hoodies in the world – plain black that matched my new school shoes. I sped through a couple of stop signs, and went past the speed limit a LITTLE. (I mean, come on – 20mph? That is so stupid. So what if I pushed it to 50?) It meant I was at school in about ten minutes.
And then I saw the school for the first time.
I mean, I’ve seen the pictures, but now I actually see this place, it’s kind of shocking. Well, Photoshop is amazing. This school was typical public school; totally old. This is where I was meant to stay until graduation?
Those losers (a.k.a. my parents) must have been kidding about this. The gates were ugly, the school fields were uncut and wild, and the buildings were crumbling. Oh God, they weren’t serious, right? I can’t live like this!
Absentmindedly walking on, I got out my phone, ignoring the people that passed me. I was about to call my parents and demand they change my school, when I saw something that made me pause and gape. N0, three things.
 Oh my GOD!
I must have died and ended up in the pages of an Abercrombie and Fitch catalogue.
The HOTTEST guys in the world.
There were three of them, all tall statuesque examples of the fine male physique. I don't think I’ve seen talent like that even in my old schools; and keep in mind that my old schools were all private academies where all the students had access to plastic surgery. This can’t be right…
They were all well-built, tall and damn sexy.
I stared at them, and for a second, the one with green eyes glanced at me. Then he looked away, as if I were significant. I hate this reaction with my whole new look. It’s totally depressing.
“Who are they?” I asked some random brunette girl next to me, who’d also paused to stare.
“The hottest guys on the football team,” she said, her eyes not leaving the guys that crossed the school yard. Her mouth was wide open as well, and she looked like she was going to drool. I totally understand. I wanted to as well.
“Max, Tom, and Carter. They’re playing the match next week.”
I snapped my phone shut. I’d changed my mind. I was staying in this school.
“Hi,” I said, grinning at the semi-drooling girl. “My name’s Alexis. What’s yours?”
“Olivia,” she replied, smiling back at me. “You the Alexis that’s new in my class?”
“Yeah,” I said, smiling. “That’s me.”

********************************************************************************************************

An hour or a billion later, we were in Biology. School is barely any different in private or public schools. They are both incredibly boring. I was sad to learn that during my month-long suspension, everyone in the Universe had not forgotten everything to do Science. Damn it. Just my luck.
Thank God Olivia, or “Ollie” as I like to call her, was in mainly all my classes. I’d assessed her. She was sweet but, she had a puppy doll brown eyes with caramel hair, and a cute face. Her fashion sense left a little to be desired  from what I could tell with her outfit  but she would do as my New Best Friend. Well, here.
“So tell me more about the three guys we saw at the school gate.” I had to know more about them; after all, I was basically here for them.
“They’re like, the best football players in the country. And the hottest. They can’t walk through a mall without a model scout walking up to them.
“Okay, Tom. His Dad’s the guy who produces a lot of movies. He’s the one with the brunette hair, and blue eyes. You can crush on the other two, but he’s mine okay?”
I nodded, and she relaxed from her “possessive” pose.
“Carter is the one with the brunette hair and brown eyes. He’s amazing at all sports; you know, tennis, swimming, soccer, you name it, he can do it. He’s on every single team for everything, but he’s just taken a natural liking to football.”
  “And who’s the last one?”
“Max. He was the tallest one, with the blond hair and green. He’s like, the biggest player in the whole school. He goes through girlfriends really fast, because no one’s good enough for him, apparently.”
We were busy finding the life-long sister in each other when the bell rang. I grabbed my notepad and a folder from my new (cramped and stupid) locker, and it was History. I was fitting in nicely and I could see what Dad meant about the whole “hiding my face” thing because I wasn’t getting the looks I got from everyone normally, apart from the expected “God, that girl’s a nerd” looks that I got, but weren’t really used to. I checked my timetable. I was in…H6. History room 6. Inventive.
I kept my head and slid into the classroom, a couple minutes late. In my old school that would have earned a detention. However, in this school, no one even noticed. I slid down onto the only free chair (actually that’s not true, there was also another chair, but it was next to some girl with a bad perm and braces. I can’t really talk now, but you know…), and I turned around to look at my desk partner…
  And I froze.
It was one of the A&F gods. He didn’t realize I was there, and just sat staring into the space, with a gazed look I recognized; you know, when you’re pretending to pay attention to teacher when your actually drifting off into unconsciousness. I know because that’s the only look I have in lessons.
It was more than that though. I’d let myself smoosh up so close to his hard muscles, I could hear it – there was Eminem playing from somewhere…
Oh my God. He had headphones in.
They were nothing more than little black buds in his ears, without the wires (maybe…wireless?) and were perfectly discreet. I must get me one of those. In the meantime… I reached over and plucked an ear-bud from his ear, wiped it (did no one else see that new report on headphones and earwax?), and placed it in mine. The familiar sound of Eminem yelling made me smile as I turned back to the teacher, who was still rambling on about enzymes. (I don’t even know how to spell the word.)
  “Hey.”
I turned slowly towards him, and gave him my best sexy smile (okay, main reason I stole his ear-bud; conversational starter), the smile that had gotten me every single straight guy in my old school.
“Yeah?” I asked, twisting a couple strands of hair in my fingers.
“Give it back,” he whispered, learning in close to me, and my vision swam. I wasn’t getting enough oxygen. His breath on my neck raised goosebumps, and I semi-shivered. This guy was so easy to manipulate.
“Why should I?” I whispered back. Our heads were way too close now, and we were in front of the whole class, not to mention a very boring (male or female? I don't know) teacher. But what would have happened if they weren’t there? I would have probably leapt on him and ripped his clothes right off. With my teeth.
“You’ll regret it if you don’t, Geek,” he murmured, a small smirk forming on his lips, and my heart leapt. His green eyes were so…piercing.
“How so?” I asked, smirking back at him, feigning innocence. Even with this nerdy hair and glasses, I still had my charm. The Skills of Flirting made up more of my IQ than Science, English and Math put together. I drew his on with my eyes to eyes that were so magnified by my new geek glasses. They were helpful, after all.
  “I will…”
Before I could hear the rest of that sentence, the teacher interrupted us.
“Since Max and the new girl seem so close,” the woman/man teacher said frostily.
“Perhaps they should partner with each other for the History Project. I’m sure everyone will be interested in what they can produce.”
Our gazes snapped back to each other, and I quickly turned away. The whole class was laughing, saying stuff like, “Max with the Nerd!” and “God, Max has the worst luck”. Immature Bastards. I was on a completely separate level from them.
Keep your head down, Alexis. This is what you did wrong in your last school. Ignore it.
But it’s so damn hard.
“Yes,” I said, my voice quiet.
  “I will partner with him.”
He raised an eyebrow at my new, quiet voice, but said nothing. He had no objections too, apparently.
After class, I was leaving when Max grabbed my hand and dragged me to some unused classroom. He pinned me to the wall, his arms on the side of my head. I couldn’t move even if I wanted to which I didn’t. There’s nothing like good, toned, muscled guy pressed up against you.
  “Geek,” he said, smirking.
  “You’re mine from now on.”
I was semi-surprised.
  “What?!” I asked, gaping.
Then he leaned down to kiss me, pressing me hard against the locker. He was good, to say the least – his lips made my whole body tingle, and electricity passed through our bodies like a real current. He made my heart thud against my chest, and for a second, the whole world stopped.
When our lips parted, I was smiling. His guy thinks he’s so good, that he’s such a player. And he was the biggest player in the school. Until me.
“You understand?” he asked, grinning cockily.

“I own you. You. Are. Mine.”

“What do you like about me?” I said, tilting my head as I looked at him.

“I think you’re interesting.”
I semi-smiled again.

“Interesting is an understatement,” I said, silencing his lips with mine, and I knew I was much better than him. After all, I was much more experienced than him.
I left him, standing in the dark classroom, shocked.
He was the biggest player........until me.

Scrapping post-UTME, a calamitous mistake — Afe Babalola

Education stakeholders, including a legal luminary, Chief Afe Babalola (SAN), and the former Vice-Chancellor of the Caleb University, Imota, Lagos, Prof. Ayodeji Olukoju, on Saturday, faulted the scrapping of the post-Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination.

While Babalola, who is the founder of the Afe Babalola University, Ado Ekiti, Ekiti State, described the directive as a tragic mistake, Olukoju as well as the Academic Staff Union of Universities said the action ran contrary to the autonomy conferred on the universities.

The Education Minister, Mr. Adamu Adamu, had while declaring open a Combined Policy Meeting on admission to universities, polytechnics and other higher institutions, on Thursday in Abuja, said it was unnecessary subjecting candidates to another round of examination after the UTME conducted by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board.

But reacting to the minister’s comments on Saturday, Babalola said the Federal Government should have consulted widely and considered what led to the creation of the post-UTME before making the announcement.

He said, “I am more than shocked by the announcement that the post-UTME as part of the qualifying procedure for admission to Nigerian universities has now been cancelled.

This, to me, is nothing but a most calamitous mistake, which poses danger and an irreversible adverse effect on the quality of education in this country.

I am particularly surprised and worried that such a far-reaching decision could be taken without due and adequate consideration for how the concept of the post-UTME came into being. It is rather unfortunate that human memory is very short.”

Olukoju, while faulting the decision, said, “JAMB is just as a clearinghouse.”

According to the renowned professor of History, the autonomy of the universities demands that they have the right to enrol students, employ teachers as well as carry out other functions that will bring quality and sanity into the system.

He said,
“The introduction of the post-UTME has done a lot of good in the system. Our education is suffering because of policy somersaults. Universities have autonomy to decide whom to enrol or employ. Besides, education belongs to the concurrent list, so the Federal Government can only issue ‘decrees’ to institutions that it can fund. I think the government should have a rethink about this decision.”

Also, the Academic Staff Union of Universities, through its new President, Prof. Biodun Ogunyemi, said universities had the right to screen prospective students before admitting them.

According to Ogunyemi, the laws establishing universities empowered the Senate of each institution to determine the conditions for admission and graduation of students.

He noted, “It is the duty of the university senate to set the cut-off marks for each of their programmes and set the guidelines to determine who is qualified for admission.

“The existence of JAMB or whatever score it sets cannot take away the statutory right of every university to determine who is qualified for their admission because that is vested in the senate of every university. Universities determine what would be the cut-off for each programme they run and the senate sets that score.”

He, nonetheless, noted that the union was against using the post-UTME to exploit candidates.

The unionist said. “ASUU is against using screening to exploit students or as a way of generating funds as they (universities) are doing presently. We are against that.”

See how Teachers' hair were shaved because they refused to go on strike

This outrageous footage shows a group of teachers and school administers having their hair shaved in public after they refused to go on strike.
As the footage shows, an elderly woman has her head yanked back by a man dressed in a yellow T-shirt as the crowd cheers.
He then begins hacking at her dark curly hair as the brave woman just sits quietly, with another woman teacher looking stunned next to her.
All the teachers had been paraded in the streets with placards around their next with, "I am a traitor," or, "I sold myself to the government," written on them.

SDK vs Emeritus: The unending war

(From L-R) SDK and Emeritus

It is no fresh news that Grateful Chukwuyere(Emeritus) is no fan of former president of NASELS, Oyeleke Sodiq(SDK). According to gossips and rumors, the beef between this two intelligent, political conscious lads started when SDK became the president of NASELS(National Association of Students of English and Literary Studies) through  perceived rigging. Although Emeritus was not a contestant in the election, he was a supporter of Tobi Temowo, the aggrieved aspirant. It became a religious bone of contention as SDK was a muslim and Temowo a christian.
This saga dragged on for a couple of weeks with the Judicial Committee Chairman, Olutoke Dotun running away from the congress for his own safety. Insults were hurled, threats were made. This threatened the Unity and Solidarity of the association. The association was almost scrapped by the HOD, Prof. Oyeniyi Okunoye.

However, SDK being way smarter and more politically conscious won at the Tribunal.

This victory was the birth of strife amongst the 2012/2013 set. Factions rose, unity disrupted. The class couldn't agree to a thing without involving a friend who involves a friend or without involving religious fanaticism.

Throughout SDK's one year tenure, there was this issue or that. SDK was once suspended from office.

Fast forward to 2016, the class awoke to a cry from Emeritus, a realist and also the most controversial person in the class' whatsapp group accusing SDK of being a traitor. Hell broke loose. Insults all over again. Factions again.

Below, are screenshots from the class group:

We’ll go nude to protest lecturers’ strike — Bayelsa students

Some students of the Bayelsa State-owned Niger Delta University, Amassoma, have taken to the streets to protest the indefinite closure of the university.

The lecturers of the institution had on April 28 gone on an indefinite strike, following the inability of the Governor Seriake Dickson to pay the backlog of workers’ salaries.

As of the time the strike began, the state government owed the university staff salaries of four months.

The students, under the aegis of the Niger Delta Visionary Movement, also criticised other students’ bodies such as the Student Union Government of NDU, National Union of Bayelsa State Students and the National Union of Izon-Ebe Students, saying they are puppets.

The aggrieved students in a statement by their spokesman, Wisdom Adike, threatened to march naked with their books and block the entrance to Government House if after a week academic activities do not resume in the school.

https://app.box.com/s/9l3ifnyvxbwa5q48zdz4m29ptqu1lnu6Adike said, “We wish to bring to the notice of the general public that the strike embarked upon by the ASUU, NDU chapter, on April 26, 2016, over non-payment of salaries, have led to the shutdown of the institution for over one month now.

“This development has continued to give parents and students great concern. Niger Delta University being the only state owned university is a legacy institution established by the late Chief Diepreye Alamieyeseigha who was recently laid to rest. The institution has not only helped in meeting the manpower needs of the state but the entire Niger Delta region and beyond."
Speaking further, Adike said,
“We are also using this medium to call on President Muhammadu Buhari to intervene in his magnanimity and benevolence in salvaging the state from the current economic crunch and hardship as parents and guardians especially in the local governments of the state have not received salaries for over 12 months, despite the release of bailout funds by the Federal Government.”

We pay cultists before we can write exams- Principal

Principal of Uvawhu Comprehensive High School, Port Harcout, Mr. Greg Okpaka, has lamented that suspected cultists now demand for money from the school before allowing it to hold examinations.

Okpaka told  correspondents that the school authority decided to give the cult group money to prevent them from disrupting the examinations.

https://app.box.com/s/9l3ifnyvxbwa5q48zdz4m29ptqu1lnu6He specifically said that cult members from the community came to ask for money on several occasions before they allowed the last external exam organised by the West African Examination Council to hold.

He pointed out that students now give less attention to their studies because some of them had been initiated into cult groups.

Explaining that the entire school has currently become a jungle, Okpaka disclosed that students were now paying more attention to cult activities than their studies.

He said in 2014, the school could not hold its internal exams as a result of threat from cultists and cult-related activities.

“Cult related activities have been disturbing academic activities. In 2014 we could not hold examinations in this school based on cult related activities, although it started from the community.

“Cultism has been impacting negatively on the students both on the internal and external examinations. The last time we conducted internal examinations here, the students’ scores were so low that if we had graded them based on that, none of them would have been promoted.

“During the last West African Examination Council, some cult boys from the community came several times to take money from the school. And the school gave them (money) to allow the exams to hold.

“We are virtually in a jungle here. From what I experienced, students here give less attention to academic works and give much attention to cultism,” he stressed.

Okpaka observed that some of the secondary students were now uncomfortable with campaigns against cultism, regretting that students now become impatient whenever campaigns were launched against cultism.

The educationist lamented that morality was fading away in secondary schools, noting that students now exhibit criminality without fear or shame.

Okpaka noted that when students were addressed to avoid cultism, they begin to shuffle their legs on the ground as a mark of protest and dissatisfaction.
