Ludovic Boumbas was enjoying a birthday meal with friends when the crazed gunman stormed into La Belle Equipe.
The brave man dived into a hail of bullets and launched himself at the fanatic to protect a woman from being shot.
Today, his friends praised Ludo as a 'hero' and paid tribute to his selfless bravery.
An unnamed friend told MailOnline: "Ludo threw himself forward to protect a girl and took the bullet.
"She was also shot, but she survived and is in hospital.
"He loved travelling the world and above all he loved people. He was just one of life's good, good people. He didn't stand a chance."
Mr Boumbas, 40, was a Congolese man who grew up in Lille, northern France, according to French newspaper Liberation .
Fedex driver Ludo was at the 35th birthday party of waitress Houda Saadi gunmen when dressed in bullet proof vests stormed into the bar.
Houda, 35, and her sister Halima, 36, were among the 19 people killed when the gunman opened fire on the bar in the Rue de Charonne at around 9.35pm on Friday.
The raids come after at least 129 people were killed in a series of attack in Paris on Friday night.
French police have since mounted a huge police operation as they try to track down those behind the atrocities.
One terrorist suspect - Salah Abdeslam - is known to have got away and is now on the run.
Another, believed to be the mastermind behind the attacks , Abdelhamid Abaaoud, is said to be living in Syria.
